Below please find an overview of Our Lady of Loretto School's Second Grade Curriculum.
Main focus is belief, worship (Liturgy and Sacraments), and prayer. How we live our lives affects everyone around us. Second graders make their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during this school year. The emphasis of the curriculum is to incorporate the teachings of our faith into our daily lives.
Basic facts are crucial!
All new areas of math rely on student’s knowledge of basic facts.
We will cover: addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers, time, money, geometry, fractions, addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers, and problem solving.
Encompasses all aspects of reading and writing.
We use the Scott Foresman Reading program which focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. We also use separate Spelling, Phonics, and handwriting (D'Nealian) texts.
The focus of the curriculum is map skills, government, producers and consumers, and people in history.
Our Second Graders also receive Specialty Instruction as follows:
