The Our Lady of Loretto Service Club is a student-run club designed to give our middle school students meaningful volunteer opportunities. Service Club is an enrichment club that is intended to develop a life of service to the community.
Grab your water and running shoes and imagine wandering the great outdoors around Novato where you can explore plenty of family-friendly hiking trail. The 11th annual Running & Walking Club will begin on September 22nd and run through May 11th. The OLL School Running and Walking Club is a drop-in program that takes place from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at OLL on Thursdays for Grades TK-3rd. Students run or walk laps around the yard and parent volunteers track the miles and trails they complete.
This year, the Running and Walking Club will be “Happy Trails”. We will be focused on trail and hiking safety as well as education on the different trails that are offered right here in Novato. We will be staying on OLL campus, however there will be maps out for the kids to see and I encourage families to visit these trails on the weekends.
All the students receive cool prizes and can earn treats along the way. The kids have fun and enjoy the outdoor time during school.
Troop #11089 has just bridged to Cadette level this year. The girls walked across the Golden Gate Bridge last spring for their bridging ceremony from Junior Girl Scouts to Cadettes. They have also participated in an overnight Camporee at Camp Both in Fairfax each year where they have participated in many activities including archery. They have been involved in many service activities and last year earned their Bronze Award (the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can achieve) for implementing a composting and recycling program at OLL and helping to create the Green Team.
Our OLL Daisy and Brownie Troops meet at school once a month on a half-day. The girls learn new things about the world through the Girl Scout Law and Promise and have fun while doing so. They step out of their comfort zone and help others. Being a Girl Scout means doing things for people other than yourself and feeling good about it. We help with local community events like "Feed the Need" and "Sparkle" and earn petals and badges for outings and hands-on activities. We participate in the annual cookie sales to cover the costs of the registration fee for the next year, give donations to the community and host an end of the year party and bridging ceremony. Being a Girl Scout builds courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
