The Computer curriculum is all designed and implemented by Beyond Technology Education. We use a project based, integrated approach to teaching both computer skills and increasing the use of technology in the classroom. The students will progress through word processing, spreadsheets and databases, multi-media presentation, and Publishing projects using their yearly theme. They will also complete projects designed by classroom teachers that integrate the computer skills into other core curriculum.
The theme for the school year in Kindergarten is Relationships. Each quarter we will focus on a different aspect of the theme while increasing their skills in the appropriate application. They will end the year by reviewing the skills and units they have covered this year and create a multi-page book using desktop publishing skills.
The theme for the school year in 1st grade is Responsibility. Each quarter we will focus on a different aspect of the theme while increasing their skills in the appropriate application. They will end the year using desktop publishing skills to create documents and review the skills and lessons learned this year.
The theme for the school year in 2nd-5th grade is Manners and Etiquette. Each quarter we will focus on a different aspect of the theme while increasing their skills in the appropriate application.
The 6th and 7th grade participate in a program called CEO Challenge. They are creating various projects as if they are the CEO of a new company. In the fall they create company overviews and logos. They then do various projects including Stock portfolios, cost of borrowing money, floor plans, brochures, and company presentations.
The 8th grade participates in a program called CEO Marketing. They also create a company where they are the CEO, but the focus is on marketing their company. They will study and design ad campaigns in the fall. In the spring, they will be filming commercials and creating other marketing products from their ad campaign plans.
